Marketers Becoming the Audience: A Key Theme of Silverpop’s Ninth Client Summit

ATLANTA, May 24, 2011-More than 500 Silverpop® clients and partners just wrapped up the company's ninth annual and largest North American Client Summit to date. Experts from Silverpop, the only provider of a scalable, integrated email marketing and marketing automation platform, keynote speakers Gary Vaynerchuk and Stephen Dubner and a host of partners and clients all addressed a common theme:  marketers are in the midst of the most significant transformation in history and must learn to adapt to be successful. 

"Everything we know about marketing is quickly evolving before our eyes," said Bill Nussey, CEO of Silverpop.  "In the past, the best marketers were the best talkers. In the future, the best marketers will be the best listeners. Marketers not only have to become the audience but must look and listen on multiple channels, multiple times a day-reaching out to millions of consumers and building individual relationships at the same time."

This theme was communicated repeatedly by keynote speakers Gary Vaynerchuk, best-selling author, entrepreneur and social media expert, and Stephen Dubner, co-author of Freakonomics and SuperFreakonomics, and in more than 35 educational sessions.  Customers also received a sneak peek at yet-to-be-announced product features designed to help them develop and execute programs that consider recipient behavior in order to automatically deliver relevant communications. 

For the second year, Silverpop incorporated a donation to charity: water into its event.  Demonstrating the power of integrating email and location-based services, Silverpop provided attendees with Foursquare's To-Do List reminders connected to various phases of the event.  For every attendee who checked in at the conference, Silverpop donated $20-raising enough funds to help charity: water provide safe drinking water to an underdeveloped community.  A well was also built from funds donated by Silverpop after the 2010 Client Summit.

In addition, Top Chef: All-Stars winner Richard Blais entertained the crowd with a live cooking demonstration shortly after Silverpop announced the first ever client Pop Star awards-presented in true Silverpop style.

Among the awards distributed, in a high school yearbook superlative theme, were the following:

  • Most Popular, celebrating the best use of social in an email: two awards were distributed in this category to J&P Cycles and Whereoware, LLC on behalf of their client Bungalow
  • Best Couple, recognizing the best business integration: Pepperdine University
  • Most Congenial, for the most engaged Silverpop Community Member: Josh Kiecker of J.J. Keller & Associates
  • Most Likely to Succeed, highlighting the best email program ROI: Travelex
  • Class Clown, showcasing the best use of humor in an email: Moosejaw
